Drama Programs- 2019-2020

Drama Time!

Movement-based creative storytelling (kinesthetic learning) for preschool (3.5-5) and kindergarten (5-7) children. Bay Area Creative Kids classes are a great way to introduce the long-term benefits of dramatic arts participation which include developing motor skills and speaking skills, building confidence, and enhancing early social skills and creative learning.

Drama Time - ages 5-7

$75

Join us on Saturday afternoons as we crawl, leap, slide, spin, slither, and jump our way through adventures! Together we'll act out movement based stories, pretend with puppets, learn songs, play drama games, and create our own unique stories as a team. During this time of social distancing, our focus will always be on building positive connections and play! 


 

Class Size: 4-8

When: Saturdays,  1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Dates:   11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, 12/12



1st-2nd Grade Programs

Our 1st-3rd grade programs are designed to help children to gain language skills , social skills, motor skills, creativity, and self-confidence through theater. Children will read, and perform, reading level appropriate plays. They'll also play theater games, learn stagecraft, and perform for guests on the last day of each session.

Young Actors Guild- ages 7-9

$90

Have fun, develop self-confidence, and make new friends! Students will exercise their creativity and connect with new and old friends while learning voice, movement, and acting. Classwork includes drama games, character creation, teamwork exercises, creative storytelling, puppetry, and reader's  theater. 


Class Size: 5-8

When: Fridays, 3 pm - 4 pm

Dates:   11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, 12/12, 12/2

1st-2nd Grade Drama Club - Joe Henderson Elementary

$175

Have fun, be creative, and build self-confidence through theater! Explore the magic of theater through drama games, puppetry, storytelling, art, and performance.   This hands-on program includes set and prop element creation and an informal performance for guests on the final day of class. 


Class Size: 8-13

Where: Joe Henderson Elementary

When:  Tuesdays, 2:50 pm- 4:30 pm

Dates:   10/15 - 12.17 (no class 11/20-11/27)


Program is open to all Benicia students. 

1st-2nd Grade Reader's Theater - MTE (5 classes)

$125

Have fun, develop self-confidence, and strengthen reading skills through theater! Learn voice, movement, acting, and stagecraft while performing stories from around the world.  Students will perform  for guests on the last day of each session.  Program includes some set and prop creation. 


Class Size: 8-13     

Where: Matthew Turner Elementary (Video Theater)

When: Tuesdays, 2:55 pm to 4:30 pm

Session 1:    3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 3/31, 4/14

Session 2:   4/21, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19


Elementary Improv Club

Children will practice teamwork, creativity, and thinking on their feet as they create an ensemble, play classic theater games, and tune their funny bone through Benicia's first Elementary school Improv Troupe!

3rd-5th Improv Team

$220

Children work as a team, earn their comedic chops, develop self-confidence, and learn to think fast on their feet through classic Improv games and performance. Three scheduled performances including a performance at the Benicia Library!


Tuition includes an Improv Team t-shirt for performances (and street cred)!

 

Class Size: 8-15 

Location: Mary Farmar Elementary

When: Wednesdays, 3 pm - 5 pm

Dates: 9/11-10/30

Performances: 

10/23, 4 pm, Mary Farmar Elementary

11/30, 6:30 pm, Mary Farmar Elementary

11/6 (tent. date), 6:30 pm, Benica Public Library
